This privacy policy explains what personal data Bellevue collects, why, who receives it, and what your choices are. It covers the Bellevue browser extension and the website at getbellevue.com. You can reach us at support@getbellevue.com.
Please read this policy before you use Bellevue. If you do not agree with it, do not agree to data collection in the extension, or remove the extension from your browser.
1. Nothing is collected until you agree
When you install Bellevue it opens a page that asks whether you agree to the data collection described in this policy. Until you agree, the extension is switched off and sends nothing. If you decline, it stays off and still sends nothing.
Agreeing turns the extension on and starts the collection. You can withdraw your agreement at any time from the extension's settings. Withdrawing switches the extension off again and stops the collection. It does not undo processing that took place while your agreement was in force.
2. What we collect when you agree
Browsing data. The web address of each page you open in your browser, the address of the page you came from, and technical details of how the page was opened. Because this covers every page you visit, some addresses may reveal sensitive things about you, such as health, religion, politics or sexuality. By agreeing you consent to their collection where the law requires explicit consent for it.
Technical data. The browser and operating system you use, your browser's language settings, the time of each visit, and your IP address. We use the IP address to work out an approximate location, such as the country, city or postal area, and pass that location on with the browsing data.
An installation identifier. A random identifier created when you agree. It is not linked to your name, email address or any account, and it is deleted when you withdraw your agreement. If you agree again later, a new one is created.
Error reports. If the extension runs into a problem on a page, it reports the address of that page, the version of the extension, a description of the error, and the installation identifier.
Contact details. If you write to us, we keep your name, email address and the content of your message.
Feedback and surveys. If you fill in one of our feedback or exit-survey forms, a third-party form service hosts the form and receives what you enter under its own privacy policy, and we receive your answers. We do not link them to the installation identifier.
We collect no names, email addresses, passwords, form contents, page contents or account information through the extension, and we do not read your cookies.
3. How we use it
To run and improve Bellevue. Browsing data tells us which sites people use the extension on, so we can decide which sites to support and fix what breaks. Error reports tell us where the extension is failing, and let us warn you when a site is known to give it trouble.
To answer you when you contact us.
We do not use your data to show you advertising, to profile you, or to make automated decisions about you.
4. Who receives it
Data partners. Companies that compile market research and analytics from web browsing data. They receive the data described in section 2, except contact details, feedback and error reports, and use it for their own purposes under their own privacy policies, such as market research. Section 9 sets out the additional rights of residents of some United States states.
Service providers. Companies that host our servers or our feedback forms, or provide a service to us, such as turning an IP address into an approximate location.
Authorities and others as the law requires. We disclose data when we are legally required to, to enforce our rights, or to protect the safety of a person.
A successor. If Bellevue is sold or transferred, the data goes with it and this policy continues to apply until it is replaced.
We do not share your contact details with our data partners.
5. Legal basis
Where the law requires a legal basis, the collection and sharing described in sections 2 to 4 are based on your consent, which you give by agreeing in the extension and can withdraw at any time. Handling your messages when you contact us, and keeping the website running and secure, are based on our legitimate interest in doing so. We disclose data to authorities where we are legally obliged to.
6. How long we keep it
We keep browsing data, technical data and the approximate location for as long as it takes to pass it to our data partners and to produce our own statistics about which sites are used, and delete it soon after that. Our data partners keep what they receive under their own policies. We keep error reports for as long as we need them to find and fix the problem and to warn you about the site. We keep correspondence, and feedback and survey answers, for as long as we need them to help you, to act on what you told us and to keep a record of the exchange. We may keep data for longer where the law requires it or where we need it to establish or defend a legal claim.
7. Where it goes
Our data partners and service providers may be located outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Where data leaves the EEA, we rely on an adequacy decision or on standard contractual clauses, and you can ask us for details of the safeguard used.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know whether we hold personal data about you and receive a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- have processing restricted;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- withdraw your consent at any time, which you can do in the extension's settings;
- complain to the data protection authority where you live.
To exercise a right, email support@getbellevue.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity. Because the data we collect through the extension is not linked to your name or email address, we may need the installation identifier from your copy of the extension to find data that relates to you, and we may be unable to find it at all. We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.
9. Residents of California and other United States states
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, this section adds to the rest of the policy.
Categories collected. Identifiers (IP address and the installation identifier); internet and network activity (browsing data and technical data); approximate geolocation; and, to the extent web addresses reveal it, sensitive personal information. We collect it from your browser, automatically, once you agree.
Sale and sharing. We sell the categories above, except contact details, to our data partners for market research and analytics. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not knowingly sell the personal information of anyone under 16.
Your rights. You may ask what we collect, ask for a copy, ask us to correct or delete it, opt out of the sale of your personal information, and limit the use of sensitive personal information. We will not discriminate against you for doing so.
To opt out of the sale, withdraw your agreement in the extension's settings. That stops the collection and therefore the sale. You can also email support@getbellevue.com, or have an authorised agent do so on your behalf with proof of their authority.
10. The website
The website at getbellevue.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Its server receives the technical information every web server receives, such as your IP address and browser, and uses it only to serve the pages and keep the site secure.
11. Children
Bellevue is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child under 16 has agreed to the collection, contact us and we will delete the data.
12. Security
We protect the data we hold with appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Where the law requires it, we will tell you about a material change before it takes effect and ask for your agreement again.
